If I'm a web3 founder working on a platform, and I want to make more money…
I won't go for ways to make MORE money, build more features, or look for something out of the box.
Instead, I'll make sure that I'm looking for ways NOT TO LOSE money.
Because that's a relatively easier thing to do.
Now you might be thinking, "But if I knew where I was losing money, I would've already fixed that."
Yeah, that's true.
But the majority of web3 platforms are bleeding money in three ways they may not even realize.
And honestly, we were doing the same a few months ago.
So, how do we fix it?
We do it by using email notifications, aka email flows.
And within the next 5 minutes, I'm going to show you the Email System that plugged these leaks and boosted our retention by 25% and activity by 40% on our latest AI project, Hinted
…And how you can set up something similar for your project within a week, even if you've never done email marketing before.
See, most early-stage startups focus on building features to attract new users but completely ignore the money walking out the back door.
Here's where the leaks usually happen:
Leak #1: One-and-done users - People try your platform once and never come back because there's nothing pulling them back in.
Leak #2: Missed opportunities - Your existing users don't know about new features, events, or updates that could increase their activity and spending.
Leak #3: Lost trust - Without professional communication, users assume your platform isn't reliable or established enough for serious money.
See, you're not losing users because your product sucks.
You're losing them because there's no system keeping them connected to your platform.
This is the "leaky bucket" problem every web3 founder faces, knowing or without knowing, and email notifications are the simplest plug.
You may also call them email flows, as they are usually automated and set up once and go out in a sequence of emails.
Early-stage startups typically see 5-10% monthly churn rates.
That means every month, you're losing 5-10% of your user base and potential future revenue forever.
But most of these users are not leaving because they hate your platform.
They're leaving because they forget about it, don't know what's new, or don't trust it enough to come back.
If email flows are not set up, once someone leaves your platform, they're gone.
You have no way to tell them their transaction is completed, that there's a limited-time promotion, or that there's a new feature that could make them more money.
On the other side, if you've got them… not only do you end up saving this churn rate, making more money, but
You're building a list of potential future buyers and your hottest fans that could be worth thousands, if not more, within months/years.
When you launch your next product, token, or feature, you won't need to spend thousands on ads or hunt for users on Twitter.
You already have a direct line to people who've used your platform before.
Most web3 projects spend $50-200 to acquire each new user through ads and influencer marketing.
But with an email list, re-engaging existing users costs practically nothing.
Plus, these aren't random people - they're users who've already connected their wallets, made transactions, and shown they trust your platform with their money.
On our recent AI project, Hinted, we added a simple email notification system.
Like just confirmation emails, reminders, and a few re-engagement nudges.
These were the results:
25% higher retention (people came back more often)
40% more activity (more transactions, clicks, time on platform)
Users literally told us it "made the platform feel more professional"
This small addition made our product feel complete, look professional, and stop the money bleed.
So, now, before I show you the email system and how you can quickly install it for your platform…
I'm gonna go over two broad types of email flows so you know what the purpose of each is:
Now these two types work differently, but when you combine them, that's when the magic happens.
Two Types of Notification Emails
This is just to give you an example. Obviously, the actual emails will be slightly longer and follow a structure.
Every email looks like it’s coming directly from your platform. Your brand’s logo, your colors, and your unique style.
1. Transactional & Informational
This is where users get an email when something important happens, so they're never left wondering.
🏦 DeFi platforms
"Your stake is confirmed."
"Your loan position was liquidated."
"Your vault is earning 12% APY."
🎨 NFT marketplaces
"Your NFT sold for 0.8 ETH"
"Bid accepted,"
"Auction ends in 2 hours."
📱 Social apps
"You got a new follower,"
"Someone replied to your post."
"Weekly digest of top posts."
🏢 RWA platforms
"Your real estate share just paid dividends."
"Monthly report available."
⚙️ General essentials
Account creation, login alerts, password reset, 2FA verification, etc.
2. Re-Engagement & Retention
Emails that bring users back when they're slipping away.
🎮 Gaming
"Don't lose your daily streak,"
"Special reward waiting for you,"
"Weekend tournament starts now."
📈 Trading platforms
"Double XP on trades today,"
"Zero-fee promotion this week."
🤝 Referral programs
"Here's your unique link, earn 500 points per referral."
🎪 Events
"We're hosting a live AMA tomorrow."
"Liquidity mining campaign starts in 3 days."
👥 Community
"Top 5 strategies this week,"
"See what other users earned."
The 5-Step Email System (Copy-Paste Implementation Guide)
Here's the exact email system we use when setting up email flows, aka notifications for any web3 platform. You can implement this yourself within the next week.
Step 1: Email Capture Strategy
Get those email addresses without being pushy
Where to capture emails:
During wallet connection (optional field: "Get notified about your transactions")
Profile setup page (right after they connect their wallet)
Before first transaction ("We'll email you when this completes")
Settings page (let them opt-in later)
Pro tip: Don't make email required. Just say, "Want to know when your transaction goes through?"
Most people will say yes.
Step 2: Event Triggers Setup
Define what's worth interrupting someone's day for
High-value events to track:
Transaction completed/failed
Bid accepted/rejected
Stake rewards earned
Price alerts hit
Security events (new login, password change)
Community milestones (you hit 1000 followers)
The key: Hook these directly into your existing functions. Don't build a separate system.
Step 3: Notification Engine
The brain that decides who gets what email when
Recommended email providers:
SendGrid (easiest to start, generous free tier)
Postmark (best deliverability, slightly more expensive)
AWS SES (cheapest at scale, more technical setup)
What to track:
Delivery status (sent/failed)
Open rates (if the provider supports it)
Click rates
Unsubscribe rates
Step 4: Branded Email Templates
Make it look like it actually came from your platform
Template essentials:
Your logo at the top
Same color scheme as your platform
Clear call-to-action button
Unsubscribe link (legally required)
Copy style: Keep it casual, like you're texting a friend. Nobody wants to read formal corporate-style emails.
Step 5: Optimize Based on What Actually Works
Don't set it and forget it
Week 1-2: Launch with basic transactional emails only
Week 3-4: Add one re-engagement email (weekly digest of their activity)
Month 2: Experiment with promotional emails (new features, events)
Month 3+: Personalize based on user behavior
What to measure:
Email open rates (aim for 20%+)
Click-through rates (aim for 3%+)
Unsubscribe rates (keep under 1%)
Most importantly: Do emailed users come back more than non-emailed users?
Pro optimization tip: A/B test your subject lines. For example, "Your NFT sold!" vs. "You just made 0.8 ETH" can have completely different open rates.
Look, I just walked you through the exact system we use to make sure we’re making more than losing by plugging user retention leaks
You've got the email system, the specific email provider suggestions to use, the events worth tracking, and even the benchmarks to measure success against.
You can literally implement this over a weekend and start seeing results within weeks.
What you'll get from setting this up:
Users who come back to your platform
A platform that feels more complete and professional, which builds trust
A valuable email list you can use for future launches
Revenue protection from the 5-10% monthly churn you're probably experiencing right now
Now this is the general playbook we follow.
If you don't want to build all of this from scratch or spend time hiring an email marketer, or you don't have a few hours to spare, I've got you.
We've already developed a plug-and-play version that we can integrate directly into your platform.
Since we've already built this before, setup is quick and affordable.
Base Setup: $1,000-$1,500
Includes email collection, templates, and basic notification logic.
Extra Notifications: depends on how many you want and how complex they are (some are quick, others take more work).
Either way works.
Build it yourself using what I just shared, or if you want it done faster, reach out to me on Telegram with the word "EMAIL" and we'll handle the technical setup while you focus on growing your platform.
Or if you wanna get on a call with me to go through how this will work for you, you can save a spot with me for a 1-1 call here.
